The Super Mario Bros. movie is set to release in April. Sneaker designer Andrew Chiou recently showed off a new custom Super Mario Bros design for Nike Dunks on Instagram in preparation for the film. The pair of shows is a mismatched dedication to several Super Mario characters and stages players will encounter while playing any of the games.

The images were paired with the caption “Mashup of some of my favorite characters/ items in Super Mario”, and fans are loving them.

The Left Shoe

The front top of the left shoe is designed to look like a yellow Mystery Block, which goes a little way up the tongue. The black of a Bullet Bill and its iconic sharp-tooth mouth follow it. The panel that houses the beginnings of the Nike symbol has been designed with Yoshi’s green scales, while the logo itself has been painted a pale yellow to match his shoes.

Meanwhile, the tongue of the show is designed with Princess Peach’s iconic pink, with a hint of blue and blonde. The panel circling the back and top of the shoe is designed to match Mario, with the top as his yellow buttoned overalls, the bottom as his signature red cap, and the heel sporting his distinct M. The top lace holes of the shoe also have two yellow stubs to symbolise his yellow buttons.

Finally, the back top of the Super Mario Nike Dunks is designed to look like the white and blue Boomerang Flower and the sole features a yellow and orange design inspired by Princess Daisy. The inside of the show is the same blue as Mario’s overalls.

The Right Shoe

The front top of the right shoe is designed to look like the iconic blue cloudy sky featured in many Mario levels. It goes a bit up the tongue, like the Mystery Block design. The surrounding panel is painted Wario’s signature purple.

The panel housing the Nike symbol has been designed to look like Toad’s signature red polka-dotted mushroom cap, while the logo itself has been painted blue to match his vest. Meanwhile, the tongue of the show has been designed after the green and orangeish-yellow of Bowser (check out these Bowser Dunks).

Finally, the back of Super Mario Nike Dunks has been designed with two tones of brown to look like Donkey Kong, the darker brown a suede-looking material that looks like fur, and the sole features a grey and black design styled after a Thwomp trap. The inside of the shoe is the same red as Mario’s cap, Bowser’s hair and Donkey Kong’s tie.

The shoes have plenty of clever little design details that bring the designs together to make a cohesive image, even though they are entirely different. The fur design of Donkey Kong and the details of Princess Peach’s dress are two elements that truly stand out above the rest.
