Nike Made a Shoe That Heats Your Feet. Here Are 9 Other Wild Designs Most People Have Never Seen

Homer Simpson, the endearing family man with an insatiable appetite for doughnuts, has graced an impressive number of sneaker designs, making it hard to keep track. Major footwear brands such as Vans and adidas, along with a slew of gifted independent designers, have found a muse in this loveable bumpkin, resulting in some seriously unforgettable sneaker creations. Following the same trend is the exceptional Homer Nike Dunks, a handiwork of the gifted Dariyn Enriquez.

Has the Nike SB Dunk Low “Homer” been done before?

You’re probably already familiar with the famous Dunk Low “Homer” Nike SB, an unofficial collab from way back in 2004. Even if you aren’t, you could still appreciate the fine details of this custom sneaker. Quite like the original, this one pays homage to the character’s classic shades of white, yellow, and blue, lending it a familiar and nostalgic aesthetic. But here’s where it sets itself apart – Dariyn Enriquez, being the creative soul that he is, has woven in his very own unique touches and a few finer details that make this customised design just as much of a catch as the original.

About the Design

The design begins with a clean, white leather base, beautifully offset by light blue overlays. Granted, this shares a striking resemblance with the original “Homer” Dunk Low, however, Enriquez cleverly alters the texture on the overlays, favouring leather over nubuck. He also uses a gradient effect to highlight every shade and detail of Homer’s attire. Plus, the colours pack a greater punch, lending a more cartoonish vibe to the shoe’s aesthetics.

Next, we’re given a vivid display of yellow. From the laces and the inner lining right through to the heel tab and side Swooshes, this bright shade takes centre stage. But the use of this colour offers a unique gradient effect that nods to the artistry behind the design. It starts with a deep shade at the heel tab that gradually brightens towards the Swoosh. The design also gets a fun touch with the word “Homer” playfully written on the heel tabs.

We certainly can’t overlook the unique detail on the tongue. The tongue showcases a stitched Swoosh accentuated by a snoozing Homer Simpson perched above it. What’s he holding in his hand? It’s a partially eaten doughnut, with a few more of these frosted treats lying complacently on his belly. Classic Homer.

Finally, the design finishes off with a brown midsole as a nod to his beard and a grey rubber outsole to capture the look of his own shoes. Honestly, I love the brightness this design brings to the classic silhouette. It offers the perfect blend of nostalgia, humour, and creativity. This makes it a must-have, not just for fans of the television series but also for sneaker lovers.

How Can You Own Your Own Pair Of Homer Dunks?

Although the original Nike SB design may cost you an eye-watering $2700 USD or higher on the likes of resale platforms like StockX (that’s if you’re lucky enough to find a pair in your size), you have the chance to own these incredible Homer custom shoes from Dariyn Enriquez without taking a significant hit to your wallet.

These Homer-inspired sneakers are presently available for pre-order at a reasonable $240 USD via the Strike Collective website. So, while the original design will always remain impressive, you can proudly wear a unique pair without your bank account wincing at the balance.

It’s worth mentioning, however, that these orders are scheduled for completion only in May 2024. If you love these Homer-inspired kicks and don’t mind waiting a while for your custom pair, this pre-order opportunity is worth considering. Make sure to check out the website for more details on how to secure your pair before they sell out! In the meantime, you can follow us for more custom and concept designs inspired by your favourite cartoon characters.
