Though many sneakerheads, including myself, have probably spent a significant portion of their lives attempting to avoid anything and everything related to clowns, this Pennywise-inspired Nike Dunk Low custom by Shoe Massacre (@shoemassacre) might be the one exception worth making.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
This sinister design is based on the sewer-dwelling clown from Stephen King’s It novel, or more accurately, the movie adaptation of the character brought to life by Bill Skarsgård. But despite being based on a spooky, evil clown that kidnaps and eats children (you can read more about the disturbing character’s motivations on Fortress of Solitude), it’s still one of the most beautiful Halloween-themed sneakers we’ve seen this year.
The pair features a cracked white Italian calfskin on the base to mimic Pennywise’s cakey clown makeup, and let’s not forget his face painted on the toebox. The overlays are then dressed in genuine Italian silk to resemble his clown costume.
To add to the details, red stitching is used throughout the design, which we all know refers to the creepy red-painted markings on his face. But by far, our favourite detail on the shoe (although to be fair, we love just about everything on this design) is the ruffled fabric layered behind the silk Swooshes. It adds a whimsical touch reminiscent of Pennywise’s clown collar.
Other details include a red balloon embroidered on the tongue, a red splattered sailboat on the heel, and Pennywise graphics printed on the insole. If you’re a fan of the eerie character, this is one pair you don’t want to miss.
