The release date of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is rapidly approaching, and Marvel fans are getting increasingly excited about what this new chapter has in store for the MCU heroes. However, before the film hits theatres (25 July 2025), fans have plenty of merch drops to look forward to—one hopefully being an official sneaker collaboration. But until then, Nike has sneakerheads psyched about the release of their new Air Force 1 “Invisible Woman 2.0” shoes.
Sure, the Swoosh Labels design may have zero official ties to the upcoming Fantastic Four movie—yes, don’t expect any Marvel co-branding on this pair—but the sneaker’s translucent TPU panels on the quarter and toe are reminiscent of the Invisible Woman AF1s that initially debuted in 2006. Plus, you’ve got to admit the timing for this new release is pretty perfect.

The upcoming MCU reboot introduces Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm not just as Reed Richards’ brilliant wife and Johnny Storm’s big sister, but also as a pregnant superhero carrying Franklin Richards, who comic fans know isn’t just any baby—he’s one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Sue juggles force fields, invisibility, and helping to lead Marvel’s First Family. But before she can start baby-proofing the Baxter Building, she’s got to help stop Galactus from snacking on Earth, alongside the Silver Surfer.
And while they’re not official Fantastic Four: First Steps merch, these translucent Air Force 1s scream “Invisible Woman.” Clear panels echo Sue’s powers, and that baby blue colourway looks straight out of the Fantastic Four wardrobe.

Of course, the 2006 and the 2025 Air Force 1 designs are not entirely identical. The 2.0 version replaces the original pale blue overlays with white ones. On top of that, the leather overlays now also cover the toe rather than just the eyestays, Swoosh, and heel. Blue highlights then come in the form of branding details and a translucent outsole below. Despite the changes, the similarities between the two styles are pretty striking, which is likely why so many sneaker sites have dubbed these AF1 sneakers the Invisible Woman 2.0s. Yet, they seem to forget that many shoe designs from the early 2000s made use of these see-through panels, a look that has become both nostalgic and infamous in its own right.

In the comments section, many wearers of the first pair recall all too well how the clear TPU forefoot panels would fog up when worn sockless, creating a steamy, humid mess. “I can smell the corn chips from here,” remarked one Instagram user, while another added, “Better be wearing some cute socks!” However, it’s not all bad.
While some sneakerheads may remember the challenges of sorting the original transparent TPU shoes, this new Nike design has garnered plenty of praise for its modern twist on the classic trend, with comments like “That’s how you do a remake!!” and “These on par with the originals tbh,” highlighting just how good this updated version actually is.

These shoes definitely feel cleaner and more modern, thanks to the addition of the white leather overlay at the toe. And now that sneakerheads are aware that these kicks do not work as well without socks, we can hopefully avoid repeating fashion faux pas’ of the past.
If you’re into the look of the Nike Air Force 1 “Invisible Woman 2.0,” keep your eyes out for its release in Fall 2025 via Nike.com and select retailers. Pairs are expected to cost $130 USD, although no official details have been confirmed yet.
