Following the confirmation of its partnership with HAL Studios, ASICS has announced the first drop of the new H.S.D.T. Signature Series. The collection features the ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 in two colourways for its debut.
The GEL-NYC 2.0 draws its inspiration from the architecture of everyday life of New York City’s overlooked structures, scaffolding, steel framework, concrete surfaces, brighes and railway lines. These structures are the silent backbone of everyday life. The theme of “The Architecture of Everyday Life” shines through on the HAL Studios x ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0, which blends the classic style of ASICS’ running DNA, fused with HAL Studios’ philosophy-driven approach to material, culture and design.
Although not the first collaboration between the two brands, the H.S.D.T. Signature Series continues to build upon previous releases, marking a new chapter in their journey. The GEL-NYC 2.0 is not merely a seasonal update, but rather a vehicle for storytelling rooted in New York City’s rich culture, exploring the way people move through the urban jungle.
Rather than referencing the iconic skylines, the design celebrates the backbone that isn’t always as glamorous. Through this inspiration, we find raw textures, layered panels and industrial detailing, which translate into elements on the sneaker that feel grounded, practical and intentionally restrained. The resulting HAL Studios x ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 silhouette is an expression of refined Blue-Collar Luxury.
There are two colourways for the drop, Sulphur/Black and Mahogany/Black. The ruggedness of the everyday hussle and bussle can be seen through the design elements. From its layered structure to the materials. It features the GEL-1050-inspired upper, with a retro-running aesthetic. Although designed with modern style interpretations, it still remains keeps its running pedigree at its core, offering up-to-date comfort and support. This is emphasised through its rearfoot and forefoot GEL technology for shock absorption, FF Blast Plus cushioning for foam-soft strides, TPU TRUSSTIC support for lateral stability and the angled heel construction to promote smoother heel-to-toe transition.
The beauty is in the detail, with ASICS making small changes to key elements to improve design and daily wear. This includes a chunkier midsole, providing all-day comfort as you traverse the city, removed mudguard, oval-shaped heel cutouts and offset underlays to created added depth in its visuals. With branding and logos kept to a minimum, the HAL Studios x ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 places emphases on its materials, proportions and overall structure to define the sneaker’s identity. This carries the brand’s philosophy of “Sound Mind, Sound Body,” reworked by HAL Studios as “The World Is Yours.”
