ASICS’ GEL technology has been central to many of its sneakers and sports shoes over the years. The brand has continually updated its proprietary shoe tech, offering new levels of support and comfort with each release. Recently, ASICS released its 28th generation of the GEL-NIMBUS sneaker, the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 28, offering next-level cushioning, enhanced comfort and a reduction in weight to eke out even more gains towards your PB.

With the newly refreshed GEL-NIMBUS shoe, runners are set to enjoy cloud-like cushioning and superior comfort to elevate all those running days. With the comfort locked down, a big emphasis was placed on weight reduction for this iteration, shedding an impressive 20g over the previous model. This makes the running shoe more refined, offering a more complete running experience without compromising on what it delivers best.

Central to the updates is the FF BLAST PLUS cushioning technology. At the heart of the shoe’s comfort, it provides a soft landing with every stride, as if you’re running on clouds. Additionally, it also supports smoother transitions between each step for more effortless running.

Secondly, there’s the PureGEL technology. The update sees a software variant of the GEL technology, positioned under the heel to provide the same trusted shock absorption, albeit it with a lighter and more refined approach.

Pushing the weightloss on the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 28 comes from the update to the outsole construction, new materials on the upper, as well as an updated heel design. The HYBRID ASICSGRIP outsole also sees a refresh, offering maximum grip and more durable traction across various terrain and surfaces. Further to this, the reengineered knit upper maintains its core breathability, while offering a softer, lighter and more comfortable fit. Each of these aspects work together to offer the most in terms of its performance, while significantly shaving off weight from the overall design.

In terms of the design, a new tongue look construction is featured, to make it easier to slip the shoe on and off. It also provides a very comfortable fit to enhance your overall running experience while in motion. Lastly, the eyelet loop design has also been tweaked, minimising the visible loops on the upper to create a sleek and modern design.

Developer of Performance Running Footwear at ASICS, Keita Ozawa, had this to say about the improved ASICS cushioning technology:

“Our approach to the GEL-NIMBUS™ 28 shoe reflects ASICS’ Kaizen philosophy, continually refining every detail to create better experiences for runners. Through thoughtful updates to the outsole, upper, and cushioning, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 28 shoe takes comfort to even greater heights. This process ensures that every runner can move both their body and mind with greater ease and enjoyment.”

The new ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 28 is available online at ASICS.com and in stores at Sportsman’s Warehouse, Athlete’s Foot, BASH, The Sweat Shop, and Kloppers Sport. It’ll be available for R3,999.90.
