The excitement surrounding Devin Booker’s new signature sneaker with Nike has both climaxed and almost fallen away in the wait for the first general release of the sneakers. Having first been announced in September last year, December 2023 marked the “first” release when the Nike Book 1 “Clay Orange” hit Miami. However, only 500 pairs were released and sold exclusively in Miami. If you weren’t one of the lucky few to get your hands on a pair, now is your chance with the Nike Book 1 “Mirage.
Sharing elements with the Air Force 1, the Air Jordan 1 and the Blazer, the Nike Book 1 has an understated and sophisticated design that applies to sports and lifestyles. According to Nike, the colourway has been named “Mirage” because of “Book’s magician-like mastery and the haze he leaves defenders lurching in while he’s getting buckets.”

Starting from the bottom, the sneakers feature a whiteish semi-translucent outsole complemented by a white Cushlon 2.0 midsole that, according to Footwear News, gives the sneaker “lateral stability, cushioning, and responsiveness.
The sleek and sophisticated upper of the sneakers combines elements of nubuck, leather and mesh to make a cohesive upper, starting with light grey nubuck on the majority of the sneaker elements like the toe box, the mudguard and the heel counter, switching to grey mesh for the quarter and cream mesh for the collar. Leather appears for the white tumbled leather Nike Swoosh logo overlaying the quarter.

The tongue and laces match the rest of the sneaker’s light grey tone that perfectly transitions to the cream lining.
While the sneakers are relatively simple, the accents include the BOOK branding on the tongue label in bright orange, which matches the inner lining. The insole also features a Nike swoosh logo and a barcode on the left.
The black heel tab makes its way down the spine of the sneaker to the midsole, reading CHAPTER ONE in white embroidery, marking the start of the collection. While there was some initial excitement for the sneakers, the hype has died down after seeing that the silhouette is similar to some of Nike’s other releases. The colourways are similar to some of the pairs in Nike’s archive.
With fans feeling like Nike might have missed the opportunity to make a beautiful pair of sneakers that is unique and tells its own story, especially how singularly brilliant Book’s game is on the court, other sneakerheads are excited to have a range of highly versatile sneakers that can be worn with anything. Which side are you on?
Release Date and Price
The stunning and understated Nike Book 1 “Mirage” colourway is slated for release on February 17th, ingeniously coinciding with the NBA All-Star weekend where Devin is expected to play as a Reserve for the West.
Unlike the first release, which was exclusive to Miami and limited to 500 pairs, the Nike Book 1 “Mirage” will see a full general release through the SNKRS app, seemingly to make up for the fumble of the first release’s exclusivity.
The sneakers will be available for an affordable price of $140, and there has yet to be any mention of exclusivity in sizing, so we will have to wait and see what happens there.
