Waffles and sneakers may seem like an odd pairing, but this unusual combination has inspired the new Nike Dunk Low “Waffle” creation. Drawing on its rich heritage, Nike brings us a deliciously fresh take on a classic style.

It may seem surprising, but Nike and waffles have a storied history that dates back to the 1970s. This is when Nike’s co-founder, Bill Bowerman, had the ingenious idea to create the first waffle-style sole by pouring rubber into a waffle iron. The outcome was a unique pattern which has since become a Nike signature design – a testament to the brand’s innovative spirit. In fact, the waffle pattern has been a defining feature in acclaimed models like the Nike Air Pegasus 83.

Fast forward to 2016, the iconic “Waffle” design was once again brought to the foreground in the form of the SB Dunk High. Nike utilised a special woven fabric to reinstate the detailed waffle pattern on the upper. The unique colourway of the Dunk High was dedicated to the Nike SB pros, who swear by the comforting classic of chicken and waffles.

And now we have the Dunk Low, which mirrors its predecessor with its waffle-stamped upper and gum rubber outsole. But this evolution doesn’t just emulate; it brings along its own special touches that set it apart from the Dunk High.

The Nike Dunk Low “Waffle,” shines brilliantly in its tasty blend of “Wheat”, “Coconut Milk”, “Sesame”, “Black”, and “Total Orange.

The sneaker’s base features a beautiful hairy suede in a yummy “Wheat” colour scheme. The toe box, heel, and quarter panel all showcase this distinctive material. However, the waffle pattern makes a grand appearance on the quarter panels, giving this shoe its distinctive moniker. The waffle detailing also extends to the tongue tag and insole labels to further emphasise the theme.

The luscious “Wheat” shade also dresses the tongue in a charming textile fabric, seamlessly extending to the mesh lining and insoles for a unified visual appeal. Soft tumbled leather in a soothing “Sesame” colour then wraps the overlays, gracefully starting from the mudguard, moving up to the eye-stays, and finally resting on the heel tab of the sneaker.

“Coconut Milk” Swooshes show up in tumbled leather, matching perfectly with the laces and “Nike” branding on the heel tab. A contrasting hint of “Total Orange” adorns the Swooshes on the tongue and insole labels, injecting a pop of vibrancy to the shoes. Finally, the design is rounded off with a caramel sole and gum rubber outsole for that extra indulgence.

Dunk Low

The Nike Dunk Low Waffle is anticipated to hit stores in Spring 2024. Priced at $125 USD in men’s sizing, you’ll be able to snag this truly tempting pair on Nike.com and selected retail outlets.
