Prince’s Air Jordan 11 “Purple Rain” Costs $100,000

We’ve featured a number of Prince-inspired concept sneakers over the years, including an Air Jordan 11 “Purple Rain” design. But it turns out that an official AJ11 inspired by the legendary musician actually exists!

A Closer Look At The Sneaker

Sneaker collector Simon Voltaire Tan has shared a special design made exclusively for Prince himself (@depeche23mode). It features purple nubuck on the shoe’s upper half with velvet mudguards wrapped around it in the artist’s very own Pantone hue, Love Symbol #2. To complete the style, there is an opaque purple outsole and a white midsole below.

But aside from the inclusion of his signature colour scheme, what connects the design to the multi-talented performer are the custom insoles that feature “Jumpman” in Prince’s iconic typography as well as graphics of falling rain as a tribute to his classic song.

While it’s pretty hard to envision Prince wearing anything other than his famed high-heeled boots, these kicks are pretty close to what we would imagine him rocking—bold, luxe, and covered in purple. If only there were more of these “Purple Rain” sneakers for fans to get their hands on.

Are The Air Jordan 11 “Purple Rain” Sneaker Available For Purchase

However, only one pair of the Air Jordan 11 “Purple Rain” sneakers was ever made, and they were supposed to be an exclusive gift for Prince, who tragically died before he received them. The sneakers are possibly among the rarest AJ 11s ever made, and Tan just sold them for a shocking $100,000 USD.

While you may not be able to purchase this one-of-one Jordan design, there are several other incredible Air Jordan 11 colourways set to release this year, including the Air Jordan 11 “Gamma Blue,” Air Jordan 11 “Sail,” and Air Jordan 11 “Rare Air.” Until then, be sure to stay tuned to Sneaker Fortress for more sneaker drops and reviews.
