Some sneaker designs are simply too iconic to stay hidden in the vaults, and PUMA seems to agree wholeheartedly. This year, the renowned German sportswear brand is bringing back the Puma GV Special, celebrating this beloved 80’s classic with a refreshing update in collaboration with Lost Management Cities.

More About the GV Special

Few may recall the original glory of this model from the early 1980s when it was still known as the PUMA California. The sneaker was celebrated for its versatility both indoors and out, as well as its distinctive midsole.

However, in due course, it was renamed “the GV Special” in tribute to the Argentinian Grand Slam winner Guillermo Vilas, famed for his one-handed backhand, aggressive playing style, and remarkable stamina. And much like Vilas himself, these shoes didn’t take long to establish themselves as a staple in tennis footwear.

Now, Puma has teamed up with Lost Management Cities, a contemporary fashion brand from Seoul, to breathe new life into this historic silhouette.

A Closer Look at the Design

Lost Management Cities has successfully given the ’80s tennis shoe a fresh remix while still retaining a touch of nostalgia.

The midfoot and tongue are adorned in “Warm White” canvas, beautifully complementing the beige denim heel tab and toe box. From there, the PUMA Formstrip and heel tabs pop with a striking “Clyde Royal” blue suede, while the Off-white suede on the eyestays completes the textured extravaganza.

But don’t overlook the special hand-finished detailing here. Raw fabric edges and zig-zag stitching on the upper further contribute to the shoe’s vintage vibe. Moreover, a unique set of cream and blue laces channels a vintage argyle sweater look.

Additional features not to be missed include the PUMA and LMC co-branding on the tongue and heel, along with a distinct Lost Management Cities tab expertly stitched in that zig-zag style onto the PUMA Formstrip.

This exquisite upper design is perched on an aged yellow midsole and a gum rubber outsole, further enhancing the retro aesthetic of the shoe.

Without a doubt, the PUMA GV Special x Lost Management Cities strikes the perfect balance between retro style and modern craftsmanship. So, if you’re a fan of classic sneakers with a unique twist, this collaboration should definitely be on your sneaker radar this season.
