Tyla Wore Custom “Batman” Air Jordan 6 Boots At The WNBA All-Star Game

The South African star's bespoke boots, built from the 'Infrared' Air Jordan 6, threw it back to Michael Keaton's Batsuit in Batman Returns.

Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla showed up at the halftime show at the 2026 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game at the United Center on July 25 wearing something very unique: a custom knee-high boot built from the Air Jordan 6. And sneakerheads are already drawing comparisons between Tyla’s AJ6 and the one Michael Keaton wore in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.

A Custom Air Jordan 6 Built For The Stage

The good news is that the sneakers look really cool. Designed exclusively for the singer by Korean customizer HARDWORKUP, the shoe repurposes the Air Jordan 6’s ‘Infrared’ colorway as its base. The bones of the classic are still there — the visible Air-Sole heel unit, the lace cage, the Jumpman branding are all present and correct. What HARDWORKUP added is the transformation: an extended knee-high shaft that turns a basketball sneaker into a genuine stage boot, without losing the AJ6 underneath it.

The Bad News: You Can’t Buy These

This sneaker is a one-of-one pair — meaning it isn’t coming to shelves anytime soon, unless Nike and Jordan Brand see the demand and decide to make it official. That’s a bit disappointing, especially since they look so cool and they’re being so well received. Considering all the Jordan releases these days are just different colorways of the same thing again and again, this would be a cool alternative.

The Batman Returns Connection

The silhouette also drew comparisons to Michael Keaton’s custom Air Jordan 6 from Batman Returns. As Sneaker Fortress previously reported, Tinker Hatfield’s Air Jordan 6 was the base sneaker Warner Bros. and costume designer Bob Ringwood chose to build into Batman’s on-screen combat boots — adding armour panelling and a knee-high shin extension over the AJ6’s stock silhouette to give the Caped Crusader his boot-like look. A surviving right-foot prop from the film sold at auction for over $8,100 in 2015.

A Sneaker With Real Pedigree

The Air Jordan 6 itself, of course, goes back to 1991, when Hatfield designed it as Michael Jordan’s signature shoe for his first NBA championship run. More than three decades on, it remains one of the most customised silhouettes in sneaker culture — and it’s not the first time it’s crossed over into WNBA sneaker culture, either.

One Of The Wildest Air Jordan 6 Transformations Yet

But Tyla’s WNBA All-Star boot is arguably one of the wildest transformations the model has seen. Nobody would have imagined that a basketball sneaker could be reimagined as full-blown stagewear built for a halftime spectacle rather than the court.

Tyla’s halftime slot capped a big week for the singer, arriving a day after the release of her sophomore album A*POP. Whether HARDWORKUP’s Batman-coded AJ6 boot ever gets a production version remains to be seen, but for one night in Chicago, it turned a 1991 basketball sneaker into the closest thing sneakerheads have seen to a modern Batsuit boot since Keaton last wore the cape.
