Adidas AE 1 “Ant-Man” Basketball Sneakers Are Beautiful

Adidas AE 1 "Ant-Man"

Wherever Anthony Edwards goes, his nickname, “Ant-Man”, tends to follow. While it may have started as a pet name given to him by his father during his younger years, it has since morphed into an enduring moniker. Of course, a catchy nickname like “Ant-Man” is bound to stir the artistic juices of some talented creatives out there. And, true enough, the creative wizards at Art of Sole crafted a stunning custom sneaker, the Adidas AE 1 “Ant-Man”, inspired by the Marvel superhero of the same name.

The Inspiration Behind the Design

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, it’s a safe assumption you’re familiar with the beloved hero Ant-Man. This Marvel superhero, famed for his size-shifting powers, has graced our screens in no less than four blockbuster Marvel films since 2015, and let’s not forget the myriads of comic book appearances he made before then.

This character, brought to life by Paul Rudd, is cherished for his sharp wit, infectious humour, and endearing personality – characteristics that also resonate quite strikingly with Edwards. So, the link between the two is somewhat fitting.

As for the Adidas AE 1 “Ant-Man” sneaker, this piece of “marvel-ous” footwear captures the hero’s essence to perfection. The sneaker is a fantastic nod to the well-known superhero’s suit with its bold colour palette and thoughtful design details.

Art of Sole cleverly used a suave black shade to mimic the superhero’s sleek look. This dark colour dominates the textile fabric on the upper and even extends to the TPU overlays on the shoe’s sides. Furthermore, lush black suede fabric graces the tongue and also replaces the standard pull tab to add a touch of elegance.

Next, we see captivating red accents highlighting the TPU overlays, the adidas heel branding, and even a delightful hint beneath the outsole. Then, to seamlessly intertwine the two colours, black and red patterned rope laces courtesy of the LaceLab feature prominently.

Naturally, an Ant-Man-inspired shoe wouldn’t be complete without a subtle salute to the hero’s impressive size-altering skills. As such, Pym Particle Discs were added to the shoe’s tongue as a clever tribute to his powers.

Last but not least, a sleek monochromatic midsole and rubber outsole pull the design together. This simple yet elegant touch completes the nod to the legendary superhero.

It’s a safe bet that Edwards will be thrilled with this superb sneaker design. We’re keenly looking forward to catching a glimpse of these on his feet one day.

How to Grab Your Own Custom Pair of Adidas AE 1 “Ant-Man”

But will we also get a chance to sport this sneaker design? Sadly, the answer may be a resounding no. This sneaker is a one-of-one custom-crafted exclusively for Anthony Edwards. But honestly, wouldn’t it be wonderful if adidas and Edwards decided to collaborate with Art Of Sole to mass-produce this design? Personally, we would jump at the chance to own a pair. Not only does the theme have somewhat of a connection with the player, but the colour scheme and design details on this sneaker are just fire.
