The unveiling of the new Air Jordan 4 RM offers an intriguing twist on the much-loved design, but can in-line releases such as the “Canyon Rust” really capture sneakerheads’ attention? Let’s look closer at the design and colourway to see if the upcoming release is a worthy adding to your collection.
Differences Between the Air Jordan 4 and the Air Jordan 4 RM
As the Air Jordan 4 reaches 35 years of existence this year, Nike looks to give the classic silhouette a bit of a nip and tuck to keep it fresh and exciting for fans. That’s where the new “RM” version comes in, offering new design elements to breathe new life into the iconic sneaker.
Of course, that doesn’t mean out with the old. Rest assured, the familiar AJ 4 silhouette isn’t going anywhere. This contemporary reimagining of the classic 1989 design will be available alongside the traditional version, offering sneakerheads yet another sneaker option come Summer 2024.
But what exactly distinguishes the RM from your standard Jordan 4? This sleek update almost feels like an entirely new sneaker release—almost. To begin with, the RM maintains the iconic shape of the AJ4 but introduces some exciting changes. The collar height is slightly lower, and the upper design is revamped. Instead of the classic wing, eyestay, and heel design, you now have a combined TPU exterior frame that gives the sneaker an exoskeleton-like look.
While this innovative look has received mixed opinions from sneaker enthusiasts, it undeniably provides a fresh twist to the now 35-year-old Jordan silhouette.
A Closer Look at the “Canyon Rust” Colourway
So, whether fans are ready or not, the new Air Jordan 4 RM silhouette is poised to launch in an array of exciting colours this year. Recently, Nigel Sylvester teased a highly anticipated green suede pair (it’s what sneaker dreams are made of). Now, we have official retailer images of the in-line “Canyon Rust” colourway.
This sneaker showcases a blend of ‘Sail,’ ‘Black,’ ‘White,’ ‘Coconut Milk,’ and the striking ‘Canyon Rust’ colour. While it may not be as attention-grabbing as its green counterpart, it still offers a versatile and noteworthy design that can elevate a variety of outfits.
In this colourway, “Coconut Milk” hues adorn the canvas and leather base panels. “Black” suede then wraps the mudguard and tongue, with the colour extending to the shoe’s TPU cage system, laces, and insoles.
The Jumpman branding on the tongue stands out in “White”, complemented by “Nike Air” logos on the heel. Meanwhile, the Jumpman on the insoles sports the reddish “Canyon Rust” shade.
The upper is seated on a “Coconut Milk” sole unit, with “Canyon Rust” accents making a statement on the toe and heel portions of the outsole.
Overall, the colour scheme of this sneaker presents a clean and versatile aesthetic. Personally, I find this new model more appealing with a tonal upper and suede finish– but that’s just my two pennies’ worth.
Release Details
However, if you’re a fan of this upcoming colourway, you can anticipate the Air Jordan 4 RM “Canyon Rust” to hit shelves in Summer 2024. Although Jordan Brand hasn’t officially confirmed the exact release details, these kicks are expected to retail at $150 USD on Nike.com and select Jordan retailers.
