It looks like the “Black Cat” colourway is making quite an impressive comeback this year. In fact, we’re set to see an array of models showcasing this much-adored palette in 2024. Ranging from the iconic Air Jordan 3 to the stylish Air Jordan 6, there’s a wealth of “Black Cat” options for footwear enthusiasts to revel in. But we’d be remiss not to draw your attention towards the Air Jordan 5 “Black Cat” because, come on, it doesn’t get much sleeker than a blacked-out AJ 5 model.

In the absence of actual images of these monochromatic sneakers, @zsneakerheadz has given us a sneak peek at what to expect via a mock-up design. Looking at these previews, you can see that although the colour scheme is simple black, several subtle details add complexity to the overall look of the shoe.

For starters, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Cat” is designed with an intricate blend of black hues, specifically “Anthracite”, “Black” and “Off Noir. Beyond colour, the design surprises with a blend of materials – no doubt to enhance texture and add depth to the overall look.

A smooth black nubuck graces the upper, elegantly offset by a satin-finished tongue that adds a touch of extra darkness to the shoe. The iconic Jumpman logos and the midsole shark teeth have then been given a muted “Anthracite” shade, a noticeably lighter hue that breaks the shoe’s deep black hues. The eyestays haven’t been forgotten and are graced with the same ‘Anthracite’ mood, conjuring an overall chic and polished look.

Other elements that stand out are the transparent netting adorning the side panels, complemented by the clear Air unit nestled within the midsole’s heel. Then, we’ve got the sleek black laces pulling together the sneaker’s look.

The black splendour persists as we move down to the midsole, concluding with a complementing black rubber outsole. Without a doubt, this model is sure to be a firm favourite in this year’s array of sneaker releases.

Of course, these images merely provide a glimpse into what the shoe might look like in terms of design and its ‘Black Cat’ colour scheme. While a replica true to this concept would undoubtedly be well-received, it’s still a mystery what the final product will turn out to be, especially with the sneaker’s SE label. Do we have another Air Jordan 1 High OG “Royal Re-Imagined” case on our hands?

Nevertheless, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Cat” is lined up for its grand return during the 2024 Holiday season. It’ll likely debut alongside a lineup of other much-awaited Air Jordan “Black Cat” models, all gloriously dressed in black. The “Black Cat” colourway certainly boasts a historic track record in the Air Jordan lineup, honouring Michael Jordan’s courtside nickname. So, it’s pretty exciting to have the chance to grab hold of numerous pairs dressed in this iconic colour scheme.

Sneaker enthusiasts will be able to grab their pair on Nike.com and at specific Jordan stockists, although the price tag remains under wraps for now. UPDATE 28/05/2024: The Air Jordan 5 “Black Cat” release will now happen in Spring 2025.
