Nike SB has been experimenting with a variety of textures on its Dunk Low silhouette, and we’re absolutely here for it. While many are eagerly waiting to grab the ultra-fluffy Verdy x Nike SB Dunk Low “Visty” in Summer 2024, another wonderfully textured addition is making its debut around the same time —the Alexis Sablone x Nike SB Dunk Low “Chameleon.”

A Closer Look at the Amazing Details

As you might have guessed from the name, this sneaker design takes significant inspiration from the ever-versatile chameleon, nature’s little master of change.

The shoe begins with a simple white tumbled leather base and a matching mesh tongue. But it’s the overlays that truly captivate, with their textured, scaly surface, reminiscent of a chameleon’s bumpy skin. These overlays feature a mix of earthy green hues, beautifully capturing the theme’s essence.

But there’s more to these overlays than meets the eye. A subtle hint of fuchsia peeks through at the edges, celebrating the chameleon’s incredible colour-changing abilities. Over time, the exterior green layer wears away to reveal a vibrant fuchsia beneath. This clever design pays homage to the chameleon’s adaptive nature while adding an exciting narrative element to the sneakers.

Sablone herself mentioned that her SB Dunks reference the chameleon and its colour-shifting abilities to represent how skateboarders can learn and evolve from each other. This thoughtful design choice not only enhances the visual appeal but also adds a layer of conceptual richness.

Other intricate details include chameleon graphics on the insole, Sablone’s autograph on the heel in the form of bumpy initials, and a slightly reimagined Swoosh designed to mimic a chameleon’s curling tongue. These elements further reinforce the thematic connection.

Finally, a sail midsole and a green rubber outsole anchor the design. And, as expected from a Nike SB collaboration, there are a few extras—additional laces and special packaging that cement the theme even further.

Another Sneaker by Alexis Releasing Alongside the SB Dunk Low

While the Alexis Sablone x Nike SB Dunk Low doesn’t shy away from its chameleon inspiration, boasting boldly scaly references, its Converse CONS AS-1 counterpart showcases a more understated aesthetic. This design features luxurious, all-white pebbled leather with striking fuchsia accents, subtly linking it to the SB Dunk Low. Its upper also wears away overtime to reveal the beautiful purplish-red colour beneath.

As a three-time X Games gold medallist and brand ambassador for Converse, Sablone is no stranger to making her mark in the sneaker world. Her signature AS-1 model serves as a testament to her influence, and with Converse being part of Nike’s portfolio, it’s no wonder she was chosen to spearhead the design of both these collaborative releases.
