Nike is showing love to Caitlin Clark very early on in her career. The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Rookie of the Year” is a sneaker that is actually tied directly to the very moment she stepped into the WNBA. Yes, it’s the same sneaker she once teased with a playful “You won’t get them” that is now actually landing in stores.
It’s easy to see that the design of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Rookie of the Year” is inspired by the Indiana Fever. It pulls colors from the team’s alternate uniforms and, yes, what Clark wore when she accepted her Rookie of the Year award. While red dominates the outsole, tongue and collar, metallic silver covers most of the upper and midsole. And while you think those colors wouldn’t work well together, they actually do. But she’s definitely still on that minimalist tip.

This isn’t Clark’s first run with Kobe silhouettes, of course. We’ve seen her in plenty of pairs in the last year. Just last summer she brought out the Kobe 5 Protro Indiana Fever, followed by the Kobe 6 Protro “Light Armory Blue”. Also, there’s another Kobe 5 Protro in Coconut Milk that is already lined up for later this year that sneakerheads are talking about.
Of course, Clark’s connection to the Kobe line isn’t random. She’s been wearing Kobe 5s and 6s since her college days. When her signature shoe finally arrives near the end of 2026, it might even be inspired by those designs. It will probably be focused on the same low-cut performance and responsive cushioning.
The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Rookie of the Year” release date is set for Wednesday via the Nike SNKRS app and select retailers, with a price tag of $190. And yeah, they probably won’t sit for very long either.
