This handmade pair of sneakers is truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Looking at these pictures, I see an epic pair of sneakers made by the one and only Surgeon. Still, the truth about the intricate details behind these sneakers is where the intrigue is. Let’s take a detailed look at the “Interstellar” Air Jordan 1 sneakers by The Surgeon.
The “Interstellar” Air Jordan 1 Sneaker
Before we get into the intricate details about the sneakers, let’s just take a look at the sneakers themselves. The Surgeon always makes the most beautiful sneakers, but he really outdid himself on these.
These sneakers were handmade from start to finish. Completely deconstructing Nike sneakers, they are absolutely gorgeous. Every detail of the sneakers has been thoughtfully altered and reconstructed to bring this “Interstellar” theme to life.
Starting from the bottom, even the outsole of these sneakers isn’t your standard Air Jordan rubber. While the tread isn’t too different from what you would typically see, the patterning around the rim of the midsole has been altered to display mottling and texture as you would expect on a piece of rock that has travelled millions of miles throughout space.

Taking a page out of the standard Off-White playbook, the name of the sneakers, “INTERSTELLAR,” is printed on the side of the midsole, as well as a description of the piece printed in bold text on the medial profile of the left shoe. This area is a lot simpler than the right sneaker to make display and description possible.
Looking up from the base, the upper of the sneakers is largely constructed of moon-grey leather. Elements of the sneaker, like the quarter and toe box, are made of embossed leather that displays patterning and texture like the surface of the moon or a meteorite.
The other leather elements of the sneaker are still grey, but they are either smooth to contrast the texture or standard pebbled leather.

The collar area is made of a gorgeous black canvas with white specks throughout, clearly printed to appear like stars. The overlay around the back of the sneakers is textured grey suede to match the grey tones throughout.
You may have noticed that we haven’t really discussed the gorgeous Nike Swoosh on these sneakers yet. The reason is that it isn’t made of just any material.

The Swoosh Is Making History
When we first read the description of these sneakers on The Surgeon’s Instagram page, we thought that he was being cheeky when he said that the sneakers utilised “a 4.56 billion-year-old meteorite that was shaped into a swoosh” because who in their right mind would use something as unique and precious as that just to be fashioned into a swoosh for sneakers?
As it turns out, that wasn’t him being cheeky. The Swooshes on the right sneaker were literally made from a billion-year-old meteorite.
The sneakers were made in collaboration with the Granada Gallery and the Natural History Art Gallery in Arizona, USA. They curated and fashioned this gorgeous piece of human history into a Swoosh, marking a moment where natural history and pop art collide, bringing this fantastic display piece to life.
The Swoosh, gorgeously fashioned, is a stiff material that is stitched onto the sneakers with thoughtfully placed perforations to anchor them to the sneakers.
Custom Display Trunk
Of course, this piece of art needed a gorgeous display because the pair is being displayed at their Granada Gallery in Tucson, Arizona, working with Bodenhorst to make a one-of-a-kind display box that was hand-sculpted and patinated to give it the appearance of the surface of the moon.
