It’s A Bird! It’s A Plane! No, It’s A Superman Air Jordan 1

Up, up, and away! The Superman-themed Air Jordan 1 is here to save your sneaker rotation.

Is there any superhero more iconic than the Man of Steel? Just take a second to think about it. In the entirety of the red-blue-blurs’ 87 years of existence, Supes has held a spot as one of the most beloved and globally recognised characters in pop culture. We’ve watched him perform incredible feats of strength, fly through the skies, and save the day countless times in comic books, movies, and TV shows. Now we get to see the iconic hero take over one of the most iconic sneaker silhouettes in the world with this Air Jordan 1 “Superman” concept. Cue in the Hans Zimmer theme music because we’re about to dive into this epic concept design by one of Fortress of Solitude’s very own, Brandon Krige.

First things first, you can’t see the colours blue, red, and yellow and not think of Superman. The colour scheme has become synonymous with the hero and even forms part of a few of the memorable nicknames he has garnered over the years. So, any shoe designed in his likeness would need to sport these iconic colours…and Brandon doesn’t disappoint with his Jordan 1 design.

The sneaker features a predominantly blue upper with red accents integrated into the toe box, tongue, ankle flap, and heel. Yellow highlights are then worked in through the wings logo on the ankle flap and the rim that sits right on top of the midsole.

Yet what helps this concept soar are the more obvious links to the titular hero, like the yellow tongue tag with the red latex S-shaped logo on top (which isn’t actually an S but rather the Kryptonian symbol for hope). This little detail is inspired by the suit worn by Henry Cavill in Zac Snyder’s somewhat divisive take on the Man of Steel.

Next, the iconic Nike Swoosh gets a 3D revamp that make it look as though it has been forged out of Kryptonite. And while we all know that Kryptonite is Superman’s weakness, its addition to the Swoosh only adds to the strengths of the design.

Finally, the pair is finished off with mismatched blue and black laces, a blue midsole, and red outsole below.

No doubt that the combination of all these unique details makes for one captivating design. Unfortunately for all of us, these Superman Air Jordan 1 sneakers are but a mere concept, and we will have to live another day without the opportunity to sport these incredible kicks.

That said, hopefully Jordan Brand will be the heroes of this story and offer sneakerheads a chance to walk in Superman’s shoes –make that Air Jordan 1s, to be exact.
