We’ve seen him grace both the Jordan Spizike and the Air Jordan 1 silhouette, but could the notorious Tasmanian Devil get his own Looney Tunes x Nike SB Dunk Low “Taz” sneakers?

Let’s be clear: Taz – or Claude, the Tasmanian Devil as he’s less frequently referred to – isn’t a newcomer to the world of Nike footwear. He’s previously been the inspiration behind Jordan Spizike and Air Jordan 1 designs. However, much to our disappointment, these were released exclusively in grade school sizes, precluding adults who are fond of Taz from wearing these quirky character shoes. It seems high time that this oversight is rectified, and what better shoe to represent the beloved Looney Tunes member than a Nike SB Dunk Low?

A Case for a Taz-themed SB Dunk Low

Take a moment to consider this: Animated personalities have long been a source of inspiration for Nike SB, resulting in some truly standout sneakers. From iconic designs like the Homer SB Dunk Low Pro to fresh takes such as the Powerpuff Girls SB Dunks, Nike SB never disappoints when it comes to bringing our favourite cartoons to life on their sneakers. What sets these designs apart is their bold imagination and fine attention to detail, capturing the very essence of the characters.

Apart from the designs, the silhouette itself enjoys immense popularity among sneaker lovers, which already makes any collaboration with a renowned animated series a definite hit.

So, despite Tasmanian Devil’s association with the Jordan Brand – a result of Michael Jordan’s involvement in Space Jam- we firmly believe that Taz’s zesty and energetic nature is really a better match for an SB Dunk Low design (no offence, JB).

The options for creativity are boundless, and Dariyn Enriquez from @dope_don_designs couldn’t have captured it better with his custom Nike SB Dunk Low design, channelling the true spirit of the character.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker Design

The sneaker’s base features a deep brown tone, reflecting Taz’s iconic fur colour. To further highlight this feature, the clever use of overlapping tufts of brown on the lighter brown overlays suggests the character’s fluffy appearance.

Now, while brown fur or hairy suede could have served a similar purpose, paint introduces an element of shading and light reflection that other materials can’t quite provide. This sheer level of attention to detail becomes particularly evident when you closely examine the intricate shading Dariyn has incorporated.

From there, the familiar swooshes and branding adopt a deep black tone, reminiscent of Taz’s adorable little nose, while the inner lining and lace design symbolise the crisp white of his teeth.

Finally, the design concludes with a two-toned beige and brown sole unit to create balance and bring the aesthetic full circle.

Undoubtedly, this is a pair of sneakers that any animation fanatic would love to have in their collection. Their unique appeal is proven by the remarkable 71,805 likes (a number still rising) the post received within just a fortnight of its unveiling on Enriquez’s social platforms. This design would certainly be met with open arms were it to leap from concept to reality.
