At Fortress of Solitude, we believe our favourite talking car, KITT from Knight Rider, looks good on just about any silhouette. Our designer has transposed KITT’s beautiful, sleek look onto a pair of Air Jordan 3 sneakers to test that theory. Let’s check it out.
Why We Chose To Merge The Jordan 3 With KITT’s Aesthetics
The Air Jordan 3 silhouette is famous for bringing Michael Jordan back into the fold and preventing him from leaving his agreement with Nike. What would make him want to leave a company like Nike? He hated the Air Jordan 2. Luckily, Tinker Hatfield knew what he was doing and coalesced the star into the fold with the Air Jordan 3.
Just six years prior to the debut of the beloved model, Knight Rider hit TV screens in 1982, leaving a lasting worldwide impact not too unlike that of the AJ3. One of the first live-action instances of a talking car, the idea of artificial intelligence skyrocketed after the series. To this day, the effects of the talking car KITT are remembered, and he and Michael Knight can be found at Comic Cons worldwide year in and out.
With the AJ 3 sporting a number of black colourways over its lifetime, it was easy to picture the shoe draped in the same sleek colours as Michael Knight’s iconic self-driving Trans Am. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at these beautiful sneakers.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
You might think that the only thing you need to do to create a pair of KITT Air Jordan 3 sneakers is to throw a bunch of red on a black silhouette, but you would be sorely mistaken. There’s an artistry in the design details, and Brandon Krige does it right with this look.
Starting on the bottom, the outsole has a matte black rubber with an in-set LED strip in the front in place of the stitching, bringing the laser light into the front of KITT’s Pontiac Trans Am bonnet.
In contrast to the outsole, the midsole is a shinier black rubber instead, with its own LED element, as seen with the window into the Air unit in the heel, which has a stunning red LED implanted in it.
The upper amalgamates a few different textures, including a patterned mudguard, a shiny leather upper-piece, and a suede upper. The lace unit is the typical Air Jordan 3 spotted leather, leaving room for all accents to speak for themselves.
Speaking of the accents, the lowest and upper-most eyelets are a stunning metallic red. At the same time, the middle lace stays are plain black plastic. The threading throughout the sneaker has been elevated from standard threading to bright red, continuing the motif.
More KITT-Inspired Sneakers
However, as previously stated, KITT’s black and red combination can make almost any silhouette look good; our “Knight Rider” Air Jordan 11 sneakers are just further evidence of this. So, remember to follow us here at Sneaker Fortress for more custom and concept kicks.
