Nike has made some genuinely gorgeous sneakers, but that has never stopped custom sneaker artists from taking an already gorgeous pair of sneakers and elevating them to a completely different level. That is precisely what this sneaker artist has done with this gorgeous pair of “Off-White” Nike Air Max 1 sneakers.
“Off-White” Nike Air Max 1
These stunning sneakers were handmade by French sneaker artist Vlg.1988, who seems partial to gorgeous Nike Air Max 1 silhouettes. He creates magic every time he applies his ideas to a new pair of sneakers.
This time, taking inspiration from many of Nike’s gorgeous Off-White designs and using some stunning French and Italian premium leathers, let’s dive in and take a detailed look at these fantastic “Off-White” Nike Air Max 1 sneakers.
Starting from the bottom of these classic, bespoke sneakers, the outsole is your average Nike Air Max 1 outsole, crafted from off-white semi-translucent rubber. Topping off the outsole, the sneakers have a stark white midsole, with the signature Nike Air Unit hidden within it, this time in bright University Red, offering a pop of colour to the otherwise pretty-plain sneakers.
Just because the colourway is relatively plain doesn’t mean that the upper is boring. On the contrary, the plentiful textures throughout the sneakers are where the fun enters the equation.
Continuing our journey up from the sole unit, the upper starts with gorgeous grey suede overlays over stunning shell-like white leather, which dominates most of the upper. The grey suede makes up the mudguard and the heel area, while the shell-like leather makes up the toe box and the collar.
Crossing the toe box is a section of shiny leather that takes on a more grey appearance, with a stunning mesh further overlaying that and making up the lace stays. Finally, the upper lace stays are formed from light blue-grey leather with a hexagonal pattern.
The Nike Swoosh is the only part of the sneaker besides the midsole that takes on a smooth appearance. It comes in white leather and is stitched on minimally with blue zig-zag stitching at the front. The tail of the Swoosh is tied down with a thick band of blue thread over an orange label, a trademark element of Off-White Nike sneakers.
Finally, the laces are the same shade as the Nike Swoosh, while the sparse mesh lining of the sneaker is a soft grey that matches some of the overlays throughout the sneaker.
Why we like them
It’s hard to argue with bespoke sneakers, especially ones brought to life with as much attention to detail as this pair. With all the work that goes into making a single pair and the thought of choosing premium leathers and textiles, owning a pair of these sneakers would be a privilege for any sneakerhead.
Where to buy them
You rarely get a pair of bespoke sneakers like these from a custom sneaker artist. Unfortunately, the bespoke “Off-White” Nike Max 1 sneakers were created as a one-of-a-kind pair and sold for €1,150.00, so it is doubtful that you can grab this specific pair.
That being said, the French bespoke sneaker artist often sells their gorgeous creations on their SumUpStore, so you can watch their Instagram posts to see when a new gorgeous pair of sneakers is added to the site so that you can pounce on it to add it to your collection.
