Nike just dropped a sneaker that looks like it belongs on your grandma’s tea set, and weirdly, it works. The Nike Air Max Plus “Lisboa” (that’s Lisbon for the non-Euro crowd) pays homage to Portugal’s iconic azulejos, those blue-and-white ceramic tiles we all somehow grew up with, even if you’ve never set foot in Lisbon or had a Portuguese relative.
If you’ve ever eaten soup out of a floral ceramic bowl while sitting at your gran’s table, this shoe is going to give you déjà vu. The mesh upper is decked out in intricate tile-inspired patterns, the kind you’d expect to see in an old Portuguese church or a vintage kitchen cabinet. This isn’t just a print slapped on a sneaker. It’s full-blown, wearable artwork. The detail is wild. And beneath that translucent gum sole is a tiled design peeks through like a surprise detail only real sneaker nerds will notice.

Nike even went so far as to remix the coat of arms from Lisbon’s city flag. Instead of the usual crest, the tongue and side logos feature a jeweled Swoosh that says “Lisboa” loud and proud. If Lisbon was a shoe, this would be it.
Now, before you get too excited, there’s one small hiccup. There’s no confirmed release date yet. And worse, these might be exclusive to Portugal. That’s right, there’s a chance you’ll need a plane ticket (or a very well-connected reseller) to get your hands on them. But judging by the hype already bubbling online, sneakerheads everywhere are crossing their fingers for a global drop.
Instagram is already wild with the reactions. “Holy fffffuuuu,” wrote one person. Another added, “These are sexy… looks like an art piece.” And someone desperate but relatable asked on Instagram, “I need pair! Where can I get them?” We feel you. One more simply said what we’re all thinking: “Praying they’re released everywhere, really need these.”

And honestly, they’re not wrong. These don’t look like your average Air Max drop. They look like something that should be sitting behind glass at a museum, or at least in a high-end boutique in downtown Lisbon with security tags and a velvet rope.
2025 is already shaping up to be a big year for sneakers, but the Nike Air Max Plus “Lisboa” might be the brand’s boldest design yet. It’s nostalgic, it’s cultural, and it’s incredibly fresh. A sneaker that references heritage without feeling forced? That’s rare.
