Reebok hasn’t always been top of mind for many sneakerheads. However, the brand has released plenty of excellent sneakers in recent years, with notable drops from their classics collection as well. That said, it’s their collaborations that have piqued interest time and time again. This includes the Panini x Reebok Emmitt Smith collection, X-men ’97 Sneakers and Reebok X Jurassic Park drop. This time, the brand partnered with the Civil Space Agency for the NASA x Reebok collection.
The collection was first spotted by @hypeneverdies_, who unveiled three models: boots and low-top sneakers. The high-top boots are based on the BB4000 II sneakers, while the low-tops include the Classic Leather Hexalite and the Club C, which often pops up in many collections. Although not yet revealed, rumours are that the range will extend to additional silhouettes, including Instapump Fury 94, Nano UNKNWN, FloatZig 1, Court Advance, and Glide.
Each of the sneakers features a grey and off-white colour theme and vintage undertones inspired by NASA spacesuits. The vintage look is further reflected with its stressed leather appearance, overlapping uppers as well as various stylish textures.
NASA x Reebok BB4000 II
Reebok takes its iconic ’80s basketball shoe and transforms it into a retro space boot. This version boasts a higher cut silhouette, translucent toe cap, spacesuit-like padding, and 3D moulds on the heel. Naturally, NASA stamps its seal of approval on the exposed foam tongues, while Reebok branding adorns the heel.
NASA x Reebok Classic Leather Hexalite
The brand’s Classic Leather Hexalite has also been given a fresh makeover. Zig-zag stitching adorns the branding at the sides of the shoe, while the exposed foam tongue adds an element of raw, unfiltered style. Further accentuating the space theme, you’ll find NASA branding on the heel and serial numbers stamped right onto the midsole.
NASA x Reebok Club C
Finally, the collection includes the iconic Club C model. The upper combines ballistic mesh and nylon, while the toe box showcases a ribbed texture, offering a fresh spin on the classic design. Perhaps most striking is the full zipper unit that replaces traditional laces, giving the shoe a distinct, futuristic feel. Plus, embossed speckle details on the midsole add an extra layer of uniqueness to this revamped classic.
While there are many that may be interested in owning and wearing an actual spacesuit. NASA recently unveiled its Artemis III Moon Surface Mission suits having partnered with Axiom Space as part of its $220m contract. A spacesuit may be out of reach for most budgets, so we’ll have to do with a pair of NASA-inspired sneakers. The NASA x Reebok collection is set to drop on 31 July 2024 and will be available at Reebok.com and various retailers. Will you take the giant leap and cop a pair?
