A Look Back at Sour Patch Kids

It takes a truly special type of candy to withstand the test of time and become a cherished classic, like Sour Patch Kids.

These candies, with their bold flavours and playful shapes, were initially launched as Mars Men in the 70s to align with the space craze of the era. However, by the 80s, they rebranded as Sour Patch Kids to ride the wave of the Cabbage Patch Kids frenzy.

Although the name may have changed over the decades, the unbeatable combination of sour and sweet flavours has solidified Sour Patch Kids as a timeless favourite for candy enthusiasts of all ages.

Today, they are still a staple in the candy aisle, and thanks to Enriquez, you can now even wear them on your feet.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker

Sour Patch Kids x Nike SB

Enriquez has truly mastered the art of turning beloved, nostalgic themes into wearable art. His latest creation, the Sour Patch Kids x Nike SB sneakers, is a burst of fun and vibrant colours, perfectly capturing the essence of the iconic candy’s packaging.

The sneaker’s base is lively yellow, complemented by a lime green tongue and collar. The eyestays are adorned with the packaging’s signature splatter design, adding yet another dynamic and playful touch.

Enriquez’s meticulous attention to detail is evident on the quarter panels, where the recognisable Sour Patch Kids characters stand out against a dark black leather backdrop. The bright orange Swoosh logo, complete with white speckles to mimic the candy’s sour sugar coating, then provides an additional layer of whimsy.

To cap it all off, the Sour Patch logo features prominently on both the midfoot area and heel, providing the perfect finishing touch. All this is set atop a black midsole and a yellow rubber outsole, which complete the sneaker’s bold and vibrant aesthetic.

The result is a pair of sneakers that are loud and bold in just the right way, making them the perfect companion for enjoying a packet of your favourite Sour Patch Kids candies.
