Even though Halloween is still months away, the intriguing Oogie Boogie has caught our attention in the sneaker world much sooner than expected. Honestly, we can’t blame shoe artists for weaving this unique character’s charm into their designs. From what we’ve seen thus far, this menacing ghoul’s distinctive hessian bag look, and intriguing glow-in-the-dark features result in a pretty impressive pair of kicks. We’ve already shared a stylish custom pair of Air Force 1 Low sneakers inspired by this playful character. Now, it’s time to turn our attention to the Nike Dunk High “Oogie Boogie” – a pair of sneakers that brilliantly translates this nostalgic childhood character onto the beloved 80s silhouette.

While the Air Force 1 iteration presented a painted interpretation of Oogie Boogie, the Nike Dunk High by Javornie Brathwaite (@jsbthecreator) takes a different approach. These sneakers feature textured materials and colours that mimic the character’s burlap sack-like appearance.

The sneaker’s base is covered in a tan-hued burlap that we associate with Oogie Boogie. The design even mimics the character’s, well, rather voluptuous physique, with lumps and bumps detailed on the toe box. But let’s talk about the glow – yes, this material actually glows in the dark! When placed in low lighting, the toe box, quarter panels, and collar project an unsettlingly green gleam. It’s a design nod that takes inspiration from the unforgettable “Oogie Boogie’s Song” scene in the classic The Nightmare Before Christmas movie, where the villain is illuminated by black lights in his lair, glowing an ominous green. Talk about meticulous design.

The design details continue with the inclusion of beige overlays. While the exact material isn’t specified, it’s undeniably effective in offsetting the burlap base. It’s entirely possible they could be crafted from leather, but imagine how stunning the overlays would look with a suede or canvas texture (swoon).

Of course, the design wouldn’t be complete without Oogie Boogie’s unique stitch details that mirror his pieced-together burlap physique. These stitch details are smartly incorporated all over the sneaker. They connect the overlays with the base of the sneaker and “fasten” the dark-coloured profile Swooshes onto the sides of the shoe.

Finally, the design finishes with the perfect combination of a tan midsole and a beige rubber outsole. These colours complement the overall colour scheme beautifully, bringing the entire look together. Of course, this design is a must-have if you love The Nightmare Before Christmas – or even if you just want a really cool sneaker.

Thankfully, Brathwaite has hinted that he may launch these kicks as early as next month. So, I suggest keeping an eye on his updates for the latest information on the drop of these stylish kicks. In the meantime, stay tuned to us for more exciting sneaker customs and intriguing concept designs in the future.

What do you think of the Nike Dunk High “Oogie Boogie”? Is this a custom sneaker you would wear, or is it a pass for you?
