This has undoubtedly been the year of the Venom-themed sneakers – especially Nike Venom Dunks. Top-notch collaborations and ruthlessly stylish custom releases have propelled this trend into the limelight within the sneaker universe. Naturally, there have been many conceptual designs, painting an image of what a pair of Venom sneakers should encompass. While some of these design attempts may have missed the mark (without calling out any names, of course), others have managed to encapsulate the very soul of this sentient alien symbiote authentically.

But why so many Venom sneakers? Well, since making his first grand appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #252 (1984), Venom has become a beloved figure in the Marvel Universe. Each video game, comic book, or film featuring him intensifies his audience’s love and admiration. This year, fans have witnessed the celebrated character in multiple comic issues, they have been able to fight against him and play as him in the eagerly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, plus they have found their excitement stoked by fan-made teaser trailers for the third instalment of his movie series. It’s hardly a surprise then, that Venom has leapt off the comic book pages to become a cultural symbol, inspiring an array of sneaker designs in 2023. Among these designs is an exceptional concept by renowned custom sneaker artist Andrew Chiou (@andu.c).

"Venom" Nike Dunk Low

Chiou’s concept design draws rich inspiration from an eye-catching Venom comic book cover from May 2022. The masterful custom sneaker artist has ingeniously fused the colour palette from the cover art into the sneaker design, forging a visually captivating and harmonious piece.

Once more, we must applaud Chiou’s impeccable colour choices, which add a distinct, vintage allure to his work. In the case of these Venom Nike Dunk Low sneakers, he’s masterfully combined muted tones of black and maroon with gentler notes of white and grey.

The majority of the sneaker’s upper boasts a subdued black tone, echoing the dark hue of Venom’s skin. In contrast, the toe box, tongue, and inner lining are adorned with a stunning shade of maroon – an accurate representation of Venom’s tongue from the comic book depiction.

The design of the “Venom” Nike Dunk Low is highlighted by its unique and artistic Nike Swooshes. On the left shoe, the Swoosh is designed in white, finely crafted to mimic the menacing eyes of Venom. Contrastingly, the right shoe features a black Swoosh, with grey outlines slithering from the lower end to the top, a clear nod to the alien symbiote’s looming tentacles. These subtle symbiotic elements aren’t confined to the Swooshes, though; they also make their way onto the mudguard, quarter panels, and ankle flap, enhancing the Venom-themed ethos of the sneaker. Lastly, the toe box doesn’t shy away from this theme either, displaying slick black tendrils that we’re all too familiar with.

The design is completed with a sleek black midsole and a dark grey outsole, which even hints at shades of blue under certain lighting conditions. This is an interesting nod to Venom’s notable representation in comics and films, brought to life with a dramatic interplay of light and dark.

Speaking of lighting, it appears that these sneakers possess a feature that allows them to glow in the dark. So, you can expect that these enchanting kicks will enhance their luminous glow in reduced lighting conditions.

Over the years, many designs have attempted to encapsulate the spirit of the symbiote, but few have actually triumphed. Standing tall in that rare league is this masterful design by Chiou. This one-of-a-kind design undoubtedly tops our wishlist of creations we hope this gifted sneaker artist will transform from vision to reality. We all eagerly await the day Chiou will make our dreams come true and release this fantastic design for purchase.

If you’re captivated by this unique design, support Chiou by showing love on his Instagram page. Remember to keep your eyes peeled for any new updates regarding the release of these exciting sneakers.
