Over the years, Studio Ghibli has offered fans their unique and whimsical aesthetic through a treasure trove of enchanting movies. At the very pinnacle is the well-loved 1988 classic My Neighbor Totoro, a tale that has remained just as magical now as it was three and a half decades ago. To honour this treasured narrative of childhood wonder and companionship, sneaker artists @guemboyy and @suburbanmemories have meticulously crafted a stunning custom pair of “Totoro” Nike Dunk Low sneakers.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker

These adept artists have made sure to weave in a number of memorable elements from the film into their spectacular design.  For starters, the base of this pair is a combination of grey and beige suede, evoking the image of Totoro himself, the giant furry creature adored by oh so many.

Moving on, the cream-coloured corduroy on the heel symbolises Totoro’s unmistakable grin, accompanied by his embroidered eyes and nose just above it. Additionally, the patterns on his belly are artistically represented on the sneaker’s toe box, ensuring Totoro’s likeness is perfectly captured.

Other standout features include embroidered blue and white Totoro silhouettes on the lateral panels and delicate moss fabric accents scattered throughout to mirror the film’s stunning natural scenery.

The look is flawlessly finished with a cream midsole, translucent outsole, and fuzzy cream-coloured laces, adding a delightful, whimsical touch to this beautiful piece.

These sneakers are an unequivocal homage to the beloved film, which has now marked 36 years since its debut in April 1988. The intricate design masterfully captures the movie’s essence, transforming these kicks from a mere themed accessory into a wearable work of art.

How to Grab a Pair of “Totoro” Nike Dunk Lows

Sadly for all of us, these exclusive beauties were limited to just three pairs in a constrained size run and have already sold out. However, if you’re dreaming of a customised pair on a different model or have your own Totoro design that you’d like to see realised, feel free to contact Gumboy or Suburban Memories for a custom creation.
