As the rest of us celebrate the start of the New Year according to the Gregorian calendar, the Lunar New Year also brings with it plenty of celebrations. With plenty of collaborations afloat, one of the latest is the PUMA x STAPLE Year of the Dragon 2024 collection.

Plenty of brands collaborate on fresh releases specifically tied to the Chinese Zodiac (or Shengxiao) of the Lunar New Year. The Chinese zodiac is tied to 12 animals linked to the circle of time repeating in 12 cycles. This year, we celebrate the Year of the Dragon. And with that, the Dragon symbolisation brings with it a host of possibilities.

For the PUMA x STAPLE collection, the due taps into the classics from the PUMA archives with a mix of sneakers and apparel. Additionally, the collection also delves into the STAPLE archive designs, featuring the brand’s original “S” dragon logo – a fitting combination for the collection. The collection features plenty of the STAPLE signature black, grey and pink colour palettes, along with traditional graphics inspired by the craft and traditions of the Lunar New Year.

For the sneaker collection, there are two Suede and two 180 silhouettes in contrasting colourways.

The Suede Year of the Dragon is crafted from a premium pebbled leather upper, hairy suede toe box and heel counter embroidery. Additionally, the debossed “S” Dragon logo, PUMA and “S” Dragon tongue label are scattered throughout the upper. There is a gold foil PUMA logo on the lateral side, with Pigeon and PUMA icons on the heel tab, gum rubber outsole, and custom graphic insoles.

As with the Suede, the 180 features a hairy suede and pebbled leather upper with multiple overlays. It also includes a leather Formstrip, Pigeon and PUMA icons on the heel tab, as well as printed Pigeon on the tongue. The sneaker has a thick padding for comfort, along with a vintage distressed midsole and gum rubber outsole.

The apparel collection features two hoodies, four tees and two sweatpants to complete the collection.
