adidas Originals has partnered with Taqwa Bint Ali for a unique collaboration, releasing the Megaride Mary-Jane sneakers as part of its ballet-inspired collection.
Adidas Originals x Taqwa Bint Ali: A Unique Collaboration
In recent months, adidas has taken the inspired route with some of its latest releases. From the very recent Samba ‘Cowhide Mules’, the adidas Aruku and the Mad IIInfinity “Dark Brown”, the bar has been set for the unique and bold design footprint. The Megaride Mary-Jane sneakers continue this trend, partnering with Taqwa Bint Ali, a renowned film director and creator at heart.
The sneakers blend a mix of two of culture’s most recognisable silhouettes into one. Ali has been part of the adidas design team before, having added her voice and style to the ‘Always Original’ collective of changemakers back in 2022. She returns to partner with the Trefoil for her debut drop, including the Megaride Mary-Jane and the Adistar Post sneakers.
Ballet-Inspired Sneakers
The Megaride Mary-Jane sneakers do have a resemblance to the Nike Shox TL, especially on the midsole. However, it takes its cues from functional ballet style and uplifts it with a modernised mix. The Bounce midsole provides lightweight cushioning, while its mixed-material upper adds luxury durability. Its Velcro enclosure stands out while also providing a throwback to the classics from yesteryear.
The Adistar Pose takes its cues from the classic Adistar running shoe. It, too, has been modernised by removing its tongue and adding luxury materials on the upper and padded cushioning for the ultimate comfort. With its running pedigree, the sneaker delivers all-day comfort no matter the activity. The Pose takes its lacing game a bit further, allowing it to be extended and tied up the calf.

The adidas x Taqwa Bint Ali Megaride Mary-Jane has a limited edition release. It will be available at adidas.co.za, and select adidas stores. It retails for R3999. The Adistar Pose doesn’t have a confirmed release date as yet.
