John Trottier’s Jordan 1 Window Blossom Celebrates Chines New Year

The Chinese New Year is fast approaching, bringing with it an array of exquisite sneakers to celebrate the festive period in style. Renowned brands, from the iconic three-stripes to the coveted swoosh and even the leaping puma, have all unveiled their own special edition footwear, aligning with this year’s theme of the dragon. Unsurprisingly, though, there’s also a stunning lineup of custom creations that have emerged to celebrate the occasion. Standing out amongst these is another custom design by John Trottier – the Air Jordan 1 “Window Blossom.

The inspiration for this design was drawn from Chinese New Year, but Trottier skilfully sidesteps an overt dragon theme and adopts a more nuanced approach with this sneaker. Instead, the “Window Blossom” design harnesses a beautiful blend of delicate floral motifs and a vibrant colour scheme that taps into the meaningful symbolism of Chinese culture.

The collar, for example, is covered with an exquisite red satin material, intricately patterned and varying from one side of the shoe to the other. This fabric choice instantly conjures thoughts of the exquisite attire worn for traditional Chinese New Year festivities. This particular shade, symbolising good fortune and protection against ominous forces, undeniably makes sense for a sneaker celebrating this special occasion.

Moving on from there, the white leather overlays- which embrace the mudguard, eye stays, ankle flap, and heel counter- are beautifully adorned with striking red blooms. These flowers, seen as symbols of good fortune and joy in Chinese culture, add a certain elegance to the overall sneaker design.

As we progress to the quarter panels and tongue, Trottier introduces a twist in texture with a fuzzy, hair-like material in pure white. This material adds a surprising element to the design and creates an appealing contrast to the smooth leather of the toe box.

Let’s not overlook the small details that greatly enhance the look of this pair. The shoes are detailed with bright, red stitching. This vibrant thread stands out against the clean white that makes up most of the shoes’ structure. And how about the stunning Swooshes? They grace each shoe’s side with a red leather check, skilfully carved with an appealing petal pattern – or is that a flame? Either way, it’s a stunning sight. Parts of the Swoosh are even carved out to reveal the fuzzy fabric underneath, giving this iconic symbol a fresh and unique twist.

Finally, the look is completed with a flawless white midsole and matching rubber outsole, providing a neat counterbalance to the strong red influences within the design. It’s the perfect finish to this unique take on the classic sneaker silhouette.

For many of us, John Trottier is a familiar name in the realm of creative design. And his balance of contrasting textures and patterns, as seen on the Air Jordan 1 “Window Blossom”, showcases precisely why. The sneakers’ uniqueness guarantees them to be a standout addition to any Lunar New Year celebrations or any occasion beyond that really.

So, if you want to get your hands on a pair of Air Jordan 1 “Window Blossom” sneakers, hurry over to Trottier’s Instagram because these kicks are set to sell in minimal quantities.

Notably, Trottier has also crafted a nod to this year’s dragon theme with his stunning Green Dragon Air Force 1 Lux sneakers. So, if your taste leans towards more overt Lunar New Year references, these dragon-inspired kicks certainly merit a look. In the meantime, though, be sure to stick with us for more stunning sneaker concepts and unique custom designs.
