In April this year, sneaker artists @guemboyy and @suburbanmemories created a custom Nike Dunk Low ‘Totoro’ design that had us reminiscing about one of our fave anime films, My Neighbour Totoro. Now, the iconic Catbus from the same beloved film has been featured in round two of Gumboy’s anime-inspired Nike Dunks, and we have all the feels.
A Closer Look At The Design
Like the original pair, the most recent design features exquisite suede materials all over the upper. However, this time, it was meticulously crafted in carefully selected brown and yellow tones to match the Catbus character’s colour scheme. And let’s not forget the pièce de résistance: the detailing.
Along with rat headlamps, stars, and Susuwatari (black dirt), the sneaker features a cut-up yellow swoosh that simulates the Catbus window panes. The design also has the same stitched eyes and cream corduroy mouthpiece on the heel as the original one, but this time, they symbolise that bright Catbus’ smile.
The shoe is finished off with a sole unit in the same shade of brown as the upper and the perfect set of purple laces. This is such a beautiful and thoughtful design that we can’t help but hope for more Studio Ghibli-inspired sneakers from Gumboy —and maybe even an official partnership with Nike in the future.
Is The “Catbus” Nike Dunk Low Available For Purchase
Unfortunately, the stunning suede sneaker is currently sold out on the Gumboy website, having been issued in a surprise drop on November 19.
The drop was limited to a mere three pairs, which were snatched up in no time.
Nevertheless, if you’re a Studio Ghibli enthusiast needing a pair of Nike Dunk Lows inspired by your fave character(s), be sure to follow these sneaker artists for any upcoming releases or possible restocks. Just make sure you have $900 USD saved up for the next shock drop. As an alternative, you can try contacting Gumboy via their website or Instagram to enquire about commissioning a custom order.
But before you leave, be sure to check out more anime-inspired sneakers on our site, including the Nike Dunk Low “Starscream,” the “Goku” Air Jordan 1 Low and the Vegeta Ultra Ego x Nike Dunk Low. And remember to follow us here at Sneaker Fortress for more custom and concept kicks.
