When it comes to designing festive footwear, the beloved Christmas movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer continues to ignite the imagination of custom sneaker artists. Following on the heels of the earlier Nike SB “Rudolph” Dunk Low, designed by Brett Battaglia and Isaac Apley, we now have Bumble, the loveable snow monster of the film, lending his name and likeness to the Bumble x Nike SB Dunk Low concept sneaker. This unique piece of footwear comes courtesy of designer Dariyn Enriquez.

If you recall, Bumble is the enormous, yet somehow endearing, snow monster from the much-loved Christmas films. This towering creature, originating from the snowy North Pole environs, initially strikes an intimidating figure for our heroes, Rudolph and his companions. But as the franchise unfolds – yes, there’s an entire series of films – Bumble’s gentle soul becomes evident. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Bumble’s incarnation in the form of Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers aptly reflects his softer side, even literally – with the incorporation of faux fur.

Just as we saw with the earlier Nike SB “Rudolph” concept design, the Bumble version takes its cue from the 2020 release of the Grateful Dead SB Dunk Lows. These sneakers don the same plush side panels, distinctive Nike Swooshes, and tongue designs that you loved in the original, yet they incorporate a unique ‘Bumble’ touch.

Of course, you might also spot the uncanny similarities between these Dunk Lows and the 2020 Yeti Dunks brought to life by Richie Range. But don’t be fooled; these Bumbles stamp their individuality on the design with their subtly changed colour palette. With shades of “White”, “Powder Blue”, “Red”, and “Black”, the Bumble x Nike SB Dunk Low artfully captures Bumble’s distinct aesthetics.

The initial standout feature is the white faux fur, serving as the base of the upper—the perfect emulation of Bumble’s lush fur coat. Complementing this are white suede overlays offering an eye-catching textural contrast, almost like glimpsing a trim Bumble after a razor session.

“Powder Blue” accents spread across the jagged profile swooshes and laces, vividly representing the snow monster’s skin tone. Adding to this, the red of Bumble’s gaping mouth finds expression in the plush lining peeking out from the ballistic mesh tongue. What’s more, a graphic depiction of the character adorns the top of the tongue’s surface.

The remaining lining is padded with a snug, feathery fabric, perfect for the chilly winter months. The immaculate white midsole and serene blue outsole finish off the design, creating a harmonious blend with the shoe’s upper part.

From the fabric selection and colouration to the underlying inspiration, there’s little doubt that the Bumble x Nike SB Dunk Low concept would make an ideal winter sneaker for the holiday season.

At present, these sneakers only exist as an innovative concept. Yet, Enriquez is constantly striving to turn his imaginative designs into reality. So, if you’re eager to see these stylish sneakers make their debut this festive season, don’t hesitate to show your love on his Instagram page.
