These Joker X Nike SB Dunks Will Make You Dance

The Joker X Nike SB 2.0 takes its inspiration from Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the notorious character.

While we often expect Joker-themed sneakers to showcase his iconic green and purple hues, sneaker designer Dariyn Enriquez (@dope_don_designs) has ventured into fresh territory with his latest creation. The Joker X Nike SB 2.0 draws inspiration from Joaquin Phoenix’s gritty depiction of the infamous villain.

With the anticipated release of Joker: Folie à Deux in 2024, Enriquez took it upon himself to design a sneaker that captures the essence of Phoenix’s portrayal of the Joker. Of course, this interpretation of the iconic character has undoubtedly been divisive.

While some appreciate the new origin story that definitely adds depth to the character, others have criticised the film for making the supervillain too human, relatable and sympathetic. But that’s not the only way Phoenix’s Joker differs from the evil villain. This version diverges significantly in terms of the colour palette used for Joker’s iconic attire.

Traditionally, we see the infamous villain in a purple suit with a green vest. However, Phoenix’s iteration opts for a red and mustard yellow ensemble in the 2019 film. Although the trailer for the upcoming 2024 sequel hints at the reappearance of the signature look, we don’t actually see the Joker himself wearing it.

Perhaps he may eventually embrace the purple and green we know so well. But we’ll have to wait until October 4th to see. Until then, his colours appear to be red, yellow, and green.

A Closer Look at the Design

Joker X Nike SB 2.0

Enriquez has masterfully incorporated the bold and vibrant palette of the Joker’s ensemble into the design of the Joker X Nike SB 2.0 sneaker. The toe box and tongue burst with life in mustard yellow, mirroring the Joker’s signature vest, with the lateral quarter panels echoing these hues.

In contrast, the medial side of the shoe features vibrant red quarter panels, clearly paying homage to his flamboyant suit. This vivid red then also extends to the forefoot overlays and heel.

The collar area reflects the distinctive green of the Joker’s shirt, with a similar geometric print embellishing the fabric. Last but certainly not least, the Swoosh and inner lining are a crisp white, symbolising the Joker’s cakey face makeup.

All these elements are set atop a white midsole and gum rubber outsole, providing a perfect finishing touch to this bold look.

Though it may not be the conventional Joker sneaker we’ve come to expect, the vibrant colours are a refreshing change for all awaiting the new movie release.
