2024 has turned out to be a terrific year to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. Comic books, memorabilia, and, of course, glorious sneakers have been lavished upon us in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Heroes in a Half Shell. Not only have fans had the opportunity to purchase adidas shoes fashioned after the Turtle Brothers, their enemy Shredder, and Master Splinter, but they will also get the chance to own a colourful TMNT x Puma Melo MB.04 pack later this year.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
As many may know, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were at the height of popularity back in the ’80s and ’90s, and we think these kicks are the ideal throwback to that era. The design sees two of the turtles will be paired together in a single set of sneakers. On one pair, “Michelangelo and Leonardo” are represented, while “Donatello and Raphael” occupy the other. But obviously, we need both of these sets to mix and match, right?
The aesthetic of the two sets is essentially the same: the sole and heel of each shoe feature the colours of the turtle’s bandana, while the tentacle-like TPU overlays are all that special turtle green. However, the intricacies are where these kicks truly shine. Each turtle’s preferred weapon—the katana for Leonardo, the bo staff for Donatello, the twin sai for Raphael, and nunchucks for Michelangelo—is displayed on the heel, while their initial is displayed on the tongue. The heel tab also features a co-branded LaMelo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo with various phrases closely associated with the basketball player scattered throughout. We can’t wait till these finally hit the shelves.
