Update October 21, 2025: The Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” will be released again during the holiday season. Upcoming pairs will release with an extra set of black laces sporting gold lace tips. Check out images of the shoe below.

Original Article: 2025 is set to be a groundbreaking (or wallet-breaking) year for Jordan Brand enthusiasts. The 40th-anniversary celebrations promise a slew of special collaborations, including eagerly anticipated new Travis Scott Jordan 1s, while the Jumpman Label is also revisiting its rich heritage by releasing some of its most iconic treasures. Arguably, the highlight of these releases will be the reissue of one of the most legendary sneakers ever crafted – the Air Jordan 1 High “Bred,” which first graced the scene in 1985.

A Bit About The Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred”

There’s no denying the excitement surrounding this reissue, especially since this release promises to be the closest to the original yet. But to truly appreciate this sneaker gem, let’s take a journey back to 1984 when Michael Jordan first donned this now-iconic colourway on the court.

MJ chose to wear the bold black and red colour scheme despite the design defying the NBA’s strict uniform policies at the time. While it earned him a $5,000 fine per game, it also positioned him as a pioneer in sneaker culture, cementing the Air Jordan 1 High “Bred” as a timeless and highly sought-after colourway for years to come.

It’s only fitting that this legendary colourway makes a comeback for the brand’s 40th anniversary in 2025. Sneakerheads will undoubtedly have this grail-worthy pair high on their wish list.

A Closer Look At The Sneaker

What makes this release particularly exciting is its promised return to the original 1985 design, complete with all the iconic features that made it a classic. The upcoming edition retains the classic “Black,” “Varsity Red,” and “White” palette and the ’85 build, featuring taller construction and a larger Swoosh.

What’s more, this design will feature premium leather from heel to toe for the first time since its 2016 retro.  The sneaker presents a “Black” base enhanced with vivid “Varsity Red” accents. A “White” midsole and red rubber outsole then round off the nostalgic look, offering fans a true blast from the past.

Of course, this release also comes with a few extras. Each pair includes additional sets of laces, a hangtag, and packaging inspired by the original. We might even see some special 40th-anniversary details on the box – but that’s just a guess for now. While no leaked images of the anticipated retro version have surfaced yet, you can relive the nostalgia with a look back at images of the OG as well as mockups from @szsneakerheads below.

Release Details

The Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” is set to drop on Nike.com and at select Jordan retailers on 14 February 2025—perfect timing as a Valentine’s gift for yourself! This iconic pair will retail for $200 USD in men’s sizes.

With the release date a while away, why not explore other Air Jordan releases to hold you over until then? The sophisticated Air Jordan 1 Low “Black Croc” will be available in Fall 2024, along with the Air Jordan 4 “Fear”.
