Whether you’re a certified 90s hip-hop lover or not, it’s nearly impossible to overlook the staggering influence of Brooklyn’s very own linguistic magician – Biggie Smalls. His unique flair and dramatic contributions to the music scene truly disrupted the status quo. From painting vivid narratives of his life on New York City streets to producing toe-tapping chartbusters like Juicy and Hypnotize, Biggie’s imprint remains indelible. Now, encapsulating his iconic style into a statement accessory, Dope Don Designs and Strike Collective have come together to create a custom sneaker that pays homage to Biggie’s musical legacy and unmistakable penchant for Coogi sweaters. Yes, this duo has done us a solid and created the Biggie x Nike SB Coogi Lows.

The dynamic design of the Biggie x Nike SB Coogi Lows captures Biggie’s love for Coogi knitwear, integrating patterns evoking these quintessential pieces. Biggie’s fondness for these knits was a key element in his distinguishable fashion profile and was prominently reflected in his music videos and photo shoots. His endearing ode to the brand became completely clear in One More Chance, where he declared, “Coogi down to the socks”. This particular style became emblematic of his transformation from humble beginnings to stardom, a narrative also reflected in his music. From the streets of Brooklyn to the stages of sold-out arenas, Biggie’s fashion evolution mirrored his journey from obscurity to becoming one of the greatest rappers of all time. It is then only fitting that a design inspired by Biggie’s iconic style would incorporate elements that symbolize his rise to fame.

The sneakers feature a clean, white leather base, allowing the vibrant detailing to stand out. The toe box details a silhouette of the Brooklyn skyline—a nod to Biggie’s roots. The mid-panel lyric quote “If you don’t know now, you know” from his iconic song Juicy further reinforces the sneaker’s connection to Biggie’s musical legacy.

The detailed, colourful patterns of the Coogi sweaters are then accurately replicated on the sneakers’ overlays, adding depth and texture to the design. The design is neatly pulled together with the help of a sharp black swoosh, laces, midsole, and inner lining, all creating an elegant contrast that highlights the intricate detailing of the sneaker. A finishing touch of a tan outsole offers a contrasting element to the overall design, enhancing its look and feel. Each step in these kicks is sure to feel like walking in the iconic shoes of Biggie himself as they bring to life his music and fashion aesthetics.
