“Ok, Nike, you can drop these.” “Those are sweet!” “Nike need to drop these.” These are just some of the many comments on Instagram regarding Caitlin Clark’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE, which is clearly getting a lot of love from sneakerheads after she wore the shoes during the Indiana Fever’s 89-78 win over the Seattle Storm. But will these sneakers ever get into the hands of fans?
Just recently, we spoke about how Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are leading this year’s sneaker wars in the WNBA. It feels like with every passing game, the two athletes have upped their sneaker game for the court. One week, Caitlin Clark’s sneakers are inspired by Scrabble. Next, it’s SEGA’s blue speed demon. Clearly, Nike is all in on these cool collabs.
A closer look at the sneaker and you’ll see the royal blue we see on SEGA’s hedgehog all over the shoe’s upper. Then there are the white overlays that represent Sonic’s gloves and flashes of red near the heel that are inspired by his big red shoes. Then there’s also a metallic gold around the swoosh, inspired by the gold rings the character is always chasing.
The sad news is that we can’t buy this sneaker just yet – even though everyone really wants a pair.
During the game, Clark dropped 21 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds while wearing the “Sonic the Hedgehog” Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE.
Nike has been giving Clark special treatment with creative new sneakers lately. While she prepares for the release of her signature sneaker, Clark has been seen in “Parent Trap” Kobes, Scrabble-inspired pairs, Rookie of the Year editions and plenty of Player Exclusive pairs.
Some reports suggest that Caitlin Clark’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE could become available at some point, most probably later in the year. But as for now, they remain on her feet only.
