Reebok has undergone quite a turn-around in recent years. Having been sold by adidas to Authentic Brands Group, there has been a key focus on changing the philosophy of the brand, while still keeping true to its roots. One such move was the introduction of LTD signature range in 2023, which released as a premium lineup of sneakers from the Reebok archives with a modern touch. Last month saw the extension of the LTD range with the reimagining of three silhouettes in its latest drop, including the Hammer Pro, the Club C and Premier Road Ultra. It is the latter which we have for review.

The Reebok LTD range is known for its material exploration – a mix of classic and modern fabrics and design that make it stand out. As with the majority of the LTD range, the Premier Road Ultra blends different worlds with new interpretations of sport and style. It combines elements, new and old, including a mixture of mesh, textured fabrics, layered design and metallic finishes. Through its “LEARN. TEST. Design” philosophy, you can see all these elements highlighted in the sneaker, with a strong emphasis on workmanship.

On the pair I received for review, the layered approach is crafted from its green-themed TPU touches. These layers are built on the Dew/Teal/Green colourway, with each layer featuring a different shade of the green colour scheme, right up to the top layer featuring the Reebok’s iconic Vector logo. This runs from the forefoot of the sneaker through to the middle, with the rear edge reaching the collar.

Beneath the TPU layers is the base layer, which is made from mesh fabrics, keeping its old-school running roots. There are two shades of the mesh, a dark grey variant similar to the 80s and 90s classics, and a more modern green variant predominantly across the toe box and collar. While most of the mesh provides a simple design aesthetic, the mesh on the mid-section allows for airflow through to the foot to allow cooling.

The latest LTD range was designed as a futuristic retro. The LTD Premier Road Ultra achieves that with its design approach of mixed materials and multiple-layer aesthetic. It looks amazing and easily styled with a pair of jeans, trackpants, or even a pair of shorts for that matter. Despite its seemingly complicated design, it pairs easily with your wardrobe, which is a huge plus for any sneakerhead.

Comfort and Performance Review: How the Reebok LTD Premier Road Ultra Feels on Foot

With the sneaker built upon the original Premier Road Ultra, a running shoe from the Y2K era, there’s plenty of comfort to match the style. Most of this comes from the midsole, which features elements from its running days to keep you on your feet throughout the day with little fuss.

a dual-density midsole and TPU shank that offer optimum comfort and stability. This prioritises lightweight performance and traction for omnidirectional support through its design.

To start with, the EVA foam midsole provides all the cushioning you need to stroll around for the day. It has a lightweight construction and designed structurally for smooth strides through each step. The midsole features the DMXRIDE dual-density technology, which takes its roots from the famous DMX sneakers from three decades back.

Added to this is the TPU torsion plate beneath the sneaker known as the Transition Bridge. This technology was designed to provide the required support while you’re running. This means that it’ll provide the same support for your walk or even just standing around while you’re working or chilling.

DMXRIDE Technology and Cushioning: Breaking Down the Premier Road Ultra Midsole

Moving up to the upper, the layered design also features plenty of elements that lends itself to your comfort. This includes the neoprene fabrics, which provides the stretchy feel when you slide your foot into the sneaker. This is supported by the moulded sockliner using these materials. As a result, you don’t need to buy bigger or wider sizes. Further to this, the padded ankle collar and tongue not only add a secure fit, but it also provides additional comfort as a result.

All of these elements make it suitable for all-day wear and use without having that feeling of needing to throw your shoes off at the most convenient time.

Traction and Durability: Inside the DMPR-Tek Outsole Performance

The DMPR-Tek outsole sits beneath the sneaker to deliver reliable traction. Again, this is the performance remains from its running roots, which add to your daily easy-of-use and the best performance. This outsole features durable rubber while also providing reliable traction, urban versatility for different terrains from streets to dirt, along with the abrasion-resistant rubber ensures long-lasting performance. The grooves on the outsole also aid your walking style, bending in the right areas, designed to meet the walking patterns for most users.

Reebok has really stepped up its game since it parted ways with adidas under ABG. Its LTD range, which was the first high-end feature of its new era in 2023, is testament to the aesthetics and quality of the brand. The LTD Premier Road Ultra is a great addition to any style type. It may not be a notable sneaker for the collector, but for your everyday use thanks to its comfort and quality, and dressing up for a night out, thanks to its design, the sneaker would be a great buy for any sneaker lover.

Reebok LTD Premier Road Ultra Price and Where to Buy

There is a slight premium of just under R4,000 ($180 in the US) that may put some off, but there are plenty of benefits to owning a pair. You really can’t go wrong grabbing one off the shelf – or ordering online.
